Alumnus Scott Swanson named Chaiman of Adler Planetarium Board of Trustees

Scott C. Swanson has been elected chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Adler Planetarium, effective immediately. An Adler Board member since 2007, Swanson has served on the Executive and Nominating committees.

Noted Michelle B. Larson, Adler president and CEO: "Scott is an outstanding civic leader in Chicago. His service to the Adler, as a Trustee and donor, has made a tremendous impact on the museum."

Added Swanson: "The Adler's mission to engage and educate people about our Universe is critical in developing tomorrow's explorers, and I look forward to working with the Adler's board and talented staff."

Swanson is president of PNC Bank in Illinois. In that role, he leads the company's overall growth strategy in the marketing, including the executive banking team, corporate banking, asset management and retail banking. He also directs PNC's community engagement in the market, including "Grow Up Great," a bilingual, early education initiative that has committed $11 million to multiple community-based organizations in the Chicagoland area.

Swanson is the immediate past chair of the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce, and an economic advisor and trustee to the Executives' Club of Chicago and the Commercial Club of Chicago.

Swanson earned an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago, where he graduated with honors. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Illinois.
