UI Vice President of Academic Affairs announced

President Hogan announces the new UI Vice President for Academnic Affairs is Dr. Christophe Pierre.

Dr. Pierre comes to the University of Illinois from McGill University in Montreal, where he has served as dean of the Faculty of Engineering since 2005. Prior to joining McGill he held engineering faculty and administrative appointments at the University of Michigan for two decades. He holds a bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering from Ecole Centrale des Arts et Manufactures de Paris in France, a master's degree in mechanical and aerospace engineering from Princeton University, and a doctorate in mechanical engineering and materials science from Duke University.

President Hogan is "delighted to welcome such an accomplished scholar and administrator to our University."  Dr. Pierre's dedication and vision led him to advance the quality and stature of programs at McGill University's Faculty of Engineering. He was active in raising more than $50 million for the school and was instrumental in increasing enrollment, research funding, and faculty. In the six years that he served as dean, the number of engineering doctoral fellowships awarded rose exponentially from eight to 128.

Dr. Pierre is scheduled to begin his U of I position, pending Board approval, on October 16, 2011.
